anime series by Shinichiro Watanabe , director of the anime Cowboy Bebop and two segments Animatrix, and Kazuto Nakazawa director of the animated sequence in Kill Bill Vol.1 . The series is 26 chapters and began airing on Japanese television in 2004.
History is located in Japan the feudal Edo peridodo (1603-1867), during which Japan, led by the Tokugawa shogunate , remained with outward restrictions limiting social relationships with other countries and promoting local culture. Social structures still remained static feudalism and a hierarchy of 4 classes in the form of social administration. The order of importance of class was: Samurai, Farmers, Artisans and Merchants. This era is known also as the beginning of the modern era in Japan and before the Meiji restoration .
The story is a journey that made 3 characters Jin, Mugen and Fuu . Their lives intersect and unite after Fuu helps them escape a death sentence. Mugen and Jin, both experts in Samurai sword, personality and characteristics are completely opposite. Everything happens as these 3 character created by Japanese travelers in search of a samurai who smells of sunflowers. Let's say the story is that ... but briefly.
interesting thing about the series, besides the swords and battle scenes, is that despite being set in the Edo era in Japan, his aesthetic all the time refers to the "culture" Hip - Hop . Example of this is the music (I mean later on it), clothes (the white lines on the sleeves of a samurai yukata resemble the Adidas brand) even in a chapter appears a microphone in the hands of a character doing freestyle raps.
Mugen, a former pirate, besides having a special character also has a very characteristic way of fighting, full of exaggerated movements. It's the perfect mix between Capoeira and Breakdance, unlike Jin is a Ronin (or samurai without a master or lord who follow) that is guided by the bushido or samurai code, which would imply a form of traditional combat without needless movements. This latter characteristic antagonism is also in their personalities.
The music of the series is incredible, sounds soft, atmospheric, downtempo, electronic and underground hip hop, some catchy tunes and well known, other environmental and almost unnoticed in the series, but not lack of quality (in fact that I like). The musicians and groups involved in the soundtrack are: Nujabes, Force of Nature, Tsuchi, Minmi and Fat Jon (the latter give it a few lines more). Fat Jon producer and rapper, a member of Five Deez and 3582 . His works, both solo and in groups he leads, are renowned for the originality, production quality and cutting-edge sounds that they possess.
The Samurai Champloo soundtrack is composed by 4 discs strictly speaking, but in total are 6 discs: · Departure · Impression · Master · Playlist . Katana are added. Original Soundtrack, that was done as a 4 disc compilation of the above for the American edition of the series and You - AI NO MI, disc 3 tracks from Japanese singer MINMI.

Samurai Champloo is one of the best anime series I've seen, along with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex . Both series bring to not be single-issue and explore various genres from action to humor, without neglecting the necessary seriousness, and of course .... with a great animation. Audio-Visual delight.
